Helsinki, 16 March 2012, Atos awarded with ‘ICT Project of the year’ for green cloud data center
Atos and its partners, Academica’s and Helsingin Energia’s received a prestigious award for their green cloud data center. The center provides the city of Helsinki with energy based on heat recovery and received the ICT Project of the Year award during the 600 Minutes Executive IT event that took place in Finlandia Hall, the evening of 14 March. The CIO Jury said that the project improves the IT industry's image, shows a genuine spirit of innovation and has demanded a strong partnership between different actors.
The prize-winning Atos cloud data center is part of Academica’s 5000 m2 Suvilahti data center. Atos goal was to set up a strategic global data center eco-efficiently, energy-efficiently and cost-effectively, and it selected partners Academica and Helsingin Energia that had built the highly eco-efficient Uspenski data center earlier. Suvilahti is a unique place in that it is located in district cooling loop and transfer points at the intersection, next to the plant and growing area of Kalasatama.
This eco-efficient data center will serve European customers and is one of the many initiatives to achieving Atos sustainable goals. The green data center utilizes eco-efficient cooling provided by Helsingin Energia, and the extra heat created by its servers will be transferred to the district heating network to provide heat and warm water for 4,500 new 80 m2 apartments in the city. Atos has a total of 13 Global Data Centers and 50 Local Data Centers.
